Education
The Howard Davis Review and subsequent report on Enterprise
in Education has put teachers and schools under the spotlight
to provide five days of ‘enterprise education’
for pupils and students before they leave school. Young Enterprise
Programmes have long been supported and recognised by the
DFES because of their education curriculum links and recently
their potential to deliver on the Howard Davis recommendations.
Young
Enterprise Programmes and core activities provide all young
people, regardless of their ability and background, an opportunity
to nurture and realise their enterprise and financial capability
as well as develop general business and economic understanding.
Young Enterprise Programmes also contribute to the Key, Thinking
and Life Skills as well as offering pupils and students a
variety of routes into ‘Work-Related Learning’.
Similarly, because volunteers from local business work in
partnership with teachers and tutors support Young Enterprise
programmes, there are many opportunities to give context and
meaning to the school curriculum at Key Stage 1 to 4 and beyond.
The purpose of this section of the web-site is to demonstrate
principally to teachers and curriculum co-ordinators exactly
how and where Young Enterprise Programmes might fit with National
Curriculum subjects, programmes of study, and also the approved
list of national qualifications. This includes our own OCR
accredited qualification at Entry Level and Level 1 &
2 and also Edexcel accredited qualification at Level 3. Likewise,
tutors in Higher Education will be interested to establish
where the Graduate Programme and Entrepreneurship Masterclass
might be used to supplement courses of study in many different
subjects.
